Problems faced by project managers become more and more complex, in this case, how to ensure or promote the performance of projects become the focus of the work of each project leader.Different scholars reserch project performance from the perspective of organizational culture, project relationship quality, leadership style and so on. People is the most important fact of a construction project, the study of enhance project performance should focus on the study of human. Leader is the heart and soul of the a project team, the leadership can influence the performace of the porject. At the same time, a good team is a guarantee for the success of a project. As a leader, to estalish a team full of fighting foece and self-confidence and lead them effectively will be able to promote the progress of the project and guarantee the project performance in the face of complex construction projects situation.The article introduce the research situation of transformational leadership, group efficacy and project performance through the carding of relevant literatures, base on these, then raise the shortcomings and problems in the current study, construct the study model and put forward the hypothesis. Because the academic circle have not reach a common agreement about the measurement of group efficacy and project performance, based on the previous research, this paper desig two measurement scales, in the following empirical researchs, the result indicate that the two scales has good internal consistency, this can offer some reference to the further research.The article mainly use SPSS statistical software for data correlation and regression analysis and reach some following conclusions:1. In the engineering construction, there is a positive relationship between transformational leadership and group effectiveness, subdivided into dimensions, there are positive correlations between virtue and charismatic leadership dimensions of transformational leadership and group effectiveness; 2.In the engineering construction, there is a positive relationship between transformational leadership and project performance, and mainly in virtue, individual care, charismatic leadership aspects; 3. In the engineering Tongji University Master of Philosophy AbstractIIIconstruction, there is a positive correlation between group effectiveness and project performance; 4. In the engineering construction, group effectiveness has partial mediating effect between transformational leadership and project performance, and the effect only in dimensions of virtue, vision motivation and personal care of transformational leadership.Key words: Transformational Leadership, Group Effectiveness, Project Performance, Engineering Construction
